Surface Finishing Expert

Job Description:

We are seeking a motivated and enthusiastic Research Scientist to join the Surface Finishing Department of CIDETEC-IK4, a technological centre located in San Sebastian (Spain).


The scientific and technical activity of the Unit is concentrated on the application of surface (physical, chemical, electrochemical, mechanical, thermal) treatments to modify material surfaces for aesthetic and functional applications.


We encourage applications from recent PhD graduates from different backgrounds (e.i. Physics, Electrochemistry, Materials Science, Surface Engineering,…) that have demonstrated a high degree of excellence in their field. Scientific experience (postdoc) or relevant industrial work in Surface Finishing will be an advantage.

Key requirements:

  • Doctoral degree in Physics, Electrochemistry, Materials Science, Surface Engineering or similar. Scientific experience (postdoc) or relevant industrial work in Surface Finishing will be an advantage.
  • Considerable knowledge and experience in materials properties, laser treatments, mechanical and chemical polishing, heat treatments, PVD, among others surface finishing treatments.
  • Demonstrated ability to work in a busy environment with changing priorities.
  • A team player, with good communication and organizational skills.
  • Fluency in English. Knowledge of Spanish will be a plus.
  • Ability to build relationships with various groups within R&D and be proactive to progress projects smoothly and to meet critical deadlines.
