The Journal of Micromechanics and Microengineering features a research paper on micro fuel cells by IK4-CIDETEC in collaboration with the IMB-CNM (CSIC)

29/01/2015
The research paper will be included in a special collection of studies on energy generation and conversion at micro and nano scale

The article "A micro alkaline direct ethanol fuel cell with platinum-free catalysts" was chosen by the “Journal of Micromechanics and Microengineering” to be included in the “PowerMEMs Feature Collection”, a collection that brings together the best research work done in 2013 and 2014 on micro and nanotechnologies for energy generation and conversion.

The collection can be accessed on the magazine’s home page or the following link, which will be updated as new research papers are published: PowerMEMS Feature Collection

The study was conducted by researchers at IK4-CIDETEC and the Institute of Microelectronics of Barcelona (IMB-CNM). Among other subjects, it addresses the development of free platinum electrocatalysts to operate in an alkaline medium. Their findings help to demonstrate the technical feasibility of the concept of direct ethanol alkaline micro fuel cells and their integration as a source of electricity in microsystems.
