COFBAT

-Project start date: November 2019
-Duration: 4 years

The project:

This project aims to develop the next generation of batteries beyond the current state-of-the-art and matching with the performances required in the non-automotive sector (private households and home storage, large- and small-scale industrial electricity grid, deployment of renewables, small robotic devices). This will be achieved by using high capacity anodes coupled with cobalt-free cathode and with a very safe gel polymer electrolyte, leveraging partners’ knowledge in advanced materials. This new technology will be developed up to a TRL 6 (large prismatic cell ESP-Cell 30Ah) at the end of the project, producing these novel high voltage and high capacity batteries close to practical applications. The CoFBAT concept will enable the development of safer, long-lasting and market competitive batteries with high cyclability (≥10,000 cycles) and the low cost per cycle down to 0.03€/kWh/cycle expected by the SET plan for stationary applications.
In order to achieve the main ambitions of the project, specific scientific and technical objectives have been set.
